Global warming is a fact we all feel now. It is affecting the lives of millions as the planet seems to go crazy. Some might claim that natural catastrophes have always been around and that the only difference now is that everything is so over-mediatized. I have no empirical data to claim otherwise but sometimes a hunch and a gut feeling are far more convincing than slides and bell curves. (more…)
دياب أبو جهجه فلتزهر ألف زهرة, قالها ماو تسي تونغ و نرددها كلما سمعنا بمبادرة تلم شمل بعض من ابناء هذه الأمة في اطار قومي تقدمي او وحدوي أو ناصري. نقولها و بقوة لأننا نعرف أن زهرة واحدة لا تصنع بستانا و لأننا نعرف كذلك أن بستانا واحدا لا يصنع الربيع. و ماذا اذا عن الحركة العربية الواحدة؟ و ماذا اذا عن التنظيم القومي الواحد؟ أعتقد أن الوقت قد حان لمراجعة فهمنا لهذه المسميات. فالحركة العربية الواحدة لا يمكنها الا أن تكون التقاء حركات متعددة. الحركة العربية الواحدة هي مجموع حراكات هذه الأمة نحو تشكلها من جديد. و هذه الحركة نحو التشكل تقودها كل قواها الحية. و قواها هذه تكون منسوبة اليها بالهاء فقط عندما تنسب نفسها للأمة و تعلن نفسها عربية مدركة لعروبتها و ساعية لبناء صرحها الجديد في هذا الزمن الجديد. و هي حية لأنها تمثل نبض الحياة في هذه الأمة, لأن الأمم كائنات حية, تعيش على نبض هو حراك أبنائها نحو المستقبل القومي المشترك. اذا توقف هذا النبض دخلت الأمة في غيبوبة قد يتبعها موت لا عودة منه. و التاريخ علمنا أن أمما عديدة ماتت بأن تفككت أمما عدة (كالأمة اللاتينية مثلا) أو بأن ابتلعتها أمم أخرى ( كالأمة البروتونية مثلا) و أمم تم اقتلاعها من أرضها و تشتيتها و ابادتها أو تذويبها (مثل المايا و الانكا في وسط أميركا). اذا لا حتمية في التاريخ الا حتمية التبدل و التغير و الحراك المستمر, و الأمة العربية اليوم موجودة و حية لأن من العرب من يكتب للعروبة و منهم من يغني للعروبة و منهم من يشكل روابطا و أندية و اتحادات و احزاب كلها تحمل اسم العروبة و تعتز به. و لذلك لا يمكننا الا أن نسعد لـتأسيس أي شيء يحمل اسم ” العربي” في عنوانه و لا يمكننا أن ننظر لهذه المؤسسة الا ككونها زهرة
The news that struck me the most during the past few days is the confirmation of a Belgian court of the ban inflicted upon my dear friend Luk Vervaet to enter Belgian jails to teach.
Luk who’s job is to teach at prisons will be consequently unemployed due to this decision. The reasons given by the Judge are those of Security of the state and they are not disclosed.
I do have sympathy for Europeans who are feeling estranged in their countries by immigration. But they too must realize that World capitalism is to be blamed. If the world was a place of equal rights, opportunities and justice, no one needs to immigrate, and those who do will do that for a while and return home, except for those who really feel at home elsewhere than in their countries, but this last category will assimilate in any new country anyway and will never be experienced as foreign unless by racists and no one really cares about racists.Only under capitalism people will live in countries they don’t like just because of economical and social reasons, and their children will be born with a grudge for the system that brought their parents where they are and makes their countries of origin unlivable. If faced with discrimination and racism these children will even hate the country they live in.As long as capitalism exists people will go where the system distributes the most, and will escape from places where the system extracts the most. Today the system extracts the most from the south ( oil, natural resources, commodities, cheap labor etc..) and distributes the most in the north. Don’t fight the symptoms, fight the illness. It has a name, Capitalism and some people call it Imperialism, but it is one and the same, the sickness of this world.
